Can I use the Stern leaderboard display for free?
Yes. Our Stern leaderboard integration is free, whether or not you use our paid services. Show all-time scores and schedule event boards on Raspberry Pi, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Google TV / Android TV. You’ll need an internet connection and your Stern display links. No card reader or paid Play On Tap subscription is required.
What is Play on Tap?
Prepaid play, memberships, or both for your existing games. Players use a phone or physical card.
Can players use a phone instead of a game card?
Yes—mobile credit play* is included at launch. Players can use game credits without a physical game card, giving your venue a way to reduce hardware setup costs. Explore mobile play.
*Mobile phone play requires an internet connection.
Can I buy or use it now?
Not yet. The commercial platform is in development. The features shown here will be available at launch, except POS integrations specifically marked for later. Ordering opens at launch.
Who is it being built for?
Arcades, breweries with games, pinball venues and independent operators. If you’ve got games, let’s talk.
Will it work with my existing machines?
Most standard coin-switch machines are compatible. We’ll help confirm your model and wiring. Check your hardware.
Not a tech person. Can you help?
Absolutely. Phone support is included with an active subscription. We’ll help you choose compatible parts and guide your DIY installation. Onsite installation is optional and priced separately.
Can I supply my own hardware?
Yes—DIY is encouraged. Buy compatible parts wherever you choose and install them yourself. We provide the required Play On Tap software and phone support with an active subscription. Buying hardware or installation from us is optional. See the hardware guide.
Will memberships replace pay-per-play?
No—use prepaid cards, memberships, or both. Pick what works for your players.
Which integrations can you help me connect?
Square memberships are included at launch, with setup help from us. See upcoming and custom integrations.
Can I keep taking cash?
Yes. Keep coin and bill play alongside Play On Tap, with no service fee on money paid directly into the machine. We don’t count incoming cash-credit pulses or take a cut—100% of that cash stays with you.
Your monthly platform minimum still applies. Cash used to load Play On Tap prepaid credit is different: the usual 2% load fee applies. Supported manufacturer audit reports can provide cash activity for reporting without adding a cash-play fee.
Can I issue a service credit remotely?
Yes. Send a service credit from your dashboard while the machine’s controller is online. There’s no extra charge.
Who handles payments and card fees?
Your chosen provider processes customer payments. You negotiate your card rates; we don’t mark them up. We bill you separately for Play On Tap services.
How much will it cost?
Paid play services start at $50/month, including prepaid-only setups. Membership rates decrease as you grow; prepaid loads add 2%. Hardware purchases are separate; paid installation is optional. Required Play On Tap software and phone support are included with an active subscription. Try the pricing calculator.
Do I need to sign a contract?
No contracts. No long-term commitment. Use Play On Tap for as long as it fits your business.
What does the service fee cover?
It keeps the platform running and improving: software development, cloud services and scan validation. Your payment processor’s fees are separate.
What happens if the internet goes down?
A hardwired local controller supports same-day offline play, tracks activity, and lets you add prepaid credits. When internet service returns, it syncs with the cloud.
Your local network and equipment must stay connected and powered—offline mode covers internet outages. Mobile phone play requires an internet connection and is not part of offline play.
